About Vivienne

I have been fostering a just and sustainable world most of my life.  The areas I’ve worked in include ending the Vietnam war, protection of the Amazonian rain forest and the people who live in and care for it, international campaigns to end the nuclear age, peace and famine relief in Africa, a wide range of women’s empowerment programs, the development of the field of ecopsychology and support for a national health care system.  I’ve worked in environments as diverse as Greenpeace International and Harvard.

After a lifetime on the front lines, I now enjoy coaching and mentoring others wanting to be more actively and effectively involved in personal and social change.  I have a particular passion for mentoring the next generation of leaders, and to that end, am involved in the Earthlands community in western Massachusetts.

Buddhist meditation has been central in my life for over 30 years. I’m a student of mind/body practices and natural healing approaches.  By training I am a lawyer and certified coach.  My work draws on both Eastern and Western practices and teachings, and holds a gentle psycho-spiritual approach.

I’m a mom and have one son who lives in Finland who is having a great time refereeing roller derby tournaments around Europe.  I’ve lived abroad many times, and always return to Boston, which has been my home base for nearly 40 years.

There is great loss and pain in the world right now, matched by enormous opportunities to let go of all that has been at the root of the current problems and to build something new and amazing from the ashes.  While there are no guarantees that humanity will make the shifts needed in the time frames that matter, I choose to believe in our capacity to shine with great courage and wisdom in the darkest of times.
